YOURSELF ALONE, MY TREASURE [mp3 / lyrics]
(words by Jim Elliot, adapted by Paul Keew; music by Paul Keew) Yourself Alone My Treasure is a text by Jim Elliot, missionary killed by the Auca tribe in the 1950s. I came across it while reading Shadow of the Almighty, the biography of Jim Elliot written by his wife Elizabeth. As I read Jim’s poem, this melody almost immediately sprang to my mind. The wording was somewhat archaic, so I modernized it a bit, adding the allusion to one of his most famous quotes: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
SURE AS THE DAWN [mp3 / lyrics]
(words and music by Paul Keew) Sure As the Dawn came about through my study in Hosea a while back. I found some beautiful poetic images in chapter 6 describing God’s faithfulness, which became the chorus. I also tried to draw from the whole whole flavor of the Scriptural text: God’s steadfast love magnified in light of our continual unfaithfulness.
